Day Skipper is our most popular course for a good reason.

It’s the best course for those who will be taking on the role of skipper for the first time, or for boaties who have years of experience but want to know more. Day Skipper is suitable for all members of the family or crew, and applies to a wide range of vessels – including yachts, launches, powerboats, jet skis, sea kayaks, and waka.

The most common feedback we have from Day Skipper students is how valuable the information is and how that knowledge improves their safety and enjoyment out on the water.

What will I learn?

The course covers boat handling, safety equipment, navigation, tides, weather, rules and regulations, emergencies, and knots – it’s a broad course outlining the whole boating experience.

The course provides the opportunity to update skills, acquire more knowledge, make boating more enjoyable for yourself and crew and instill safe boating practices. It’ll help recreational boat users avoid getting into difficulties by understanding the maritime environment, the capabilities of their boats, the rules of the sea, and the action to be taken in emergencies.

When and where?

The course takes 15 hours, and you can study online, at home or in the classroom during the day, evening or weekend. For locations and times see more information for the course below.
