Many could’ve been avoided through better engine maintenance, recognising problems earlier or having the knowledge to run through some basic troubleshooting. 

Who's it for?

A large number of our callouts to Coastguard members are for breakdowns, and many could’ve been avoided through better engine maintenance, recognising problems earlier or having the knowledge to run through some basic troubleshooting. This is the course for anyone who wants to gain essential knowledge on the operation and care of inboard diesel engines.

What will I learn?

The course covers the following modules:

• Diesel fuel systems and lubrication
• Cooling systems: salt and fresh water cooled
• Electrical systems: battery care and electrolysis
• General systems overview: gearboxes and drives, and fault finding

When and where?

The course takes 8 hours, and you can study at home or in the classroom during the day, evening or weekend.
